Markus Huber Ried Spiegeln Chardonnay 2023

Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Located in Reichersdorf in Austria’s Traisental wine district, Markus Huber Weingut is a renowned family-run winery founded in 2000 when Markus took over his father’s vineyards that had previously only been used to make wines for the family restaurant. The organically grown Chardonnay grapes are sourced from the Ried Spiegeln vineyard. Here the vines are rooted in ancient soil composed of a thin limestone conglomerate, and enjoy an eastern exposure with a beautiful view of the Danube. After manual harvesting, fermentation occurs spontaneously in 500-liter French oak barrels, and the finished wine rests on the lees for 10 months. Ried Spiegeln Chardonnay is an elegant and characterful wine with a golden color and some silver reflections. On the nose, it reveals a lively and intense aromatic profile with notes of passion fruit and tropical fruit, herbaceous and woody hints. On the palate, it is juicy and mineral, with a medium body and a creamy texture. It has a strong and well-integrated acidity and a refreshing fruit concentration that returns on the long finish. It is very versatile in food pairings. It works well with Pad Thai, Asian seafood dishes and asparagus quiches and tarts.
