The binding is in good condition with wear to the title on the spines of both volumes, most evident towards spine ends. Sound hinges and very legible copy. The corners of the board covers are warped due to improper shelving. 2 volumes; pp. xv, 529; xv, 472, plus 2 pages of publisher's ads. All maps and engravings presents. A good set in good condition. The first edition of Stanley's famous account of his 1886-9 expedition to relieve Emin Pasha, the governor of Equatoria who was supposedly besieged by Mahdist forces.
