This Massim lime spatula was collected by Methodist Missionaries in New Guinea prior to 1953 when they returned to Australia. This type of spatula is referred to as the clapper type as they have a cut out slit at the top section which is best seen in the last photo. This space allows the spatula to produce a sound when struck on the thigh. The surface of this now is smooth and glossy from years of use, The blade has some discolouring suggesting it has had contact with betel nut. It measures 26cm in height.
