Originating from the Anti-Atlas region in Morocco these wooden Arabic wedding contracts were used by the Berber tribes. As there was no paper available, these documents were noted on wooden panels. Unstamped by French Colonisers these probably date pre 1912

A stunning pair of hand-carved animal sculptures made from Verdite, a beautiful semi-precious green stone found in Southern Africa. These "house hippos" feature a deep, rich green hue with unique golden-brown flecks and mineral inclusions running throughout the stone. Both pieces are heavy for their size and naturally cold to the touch. The set includes: * Large Hippo: 8cm (L) x 7cm (H) x 4cm (W). Polished to a high shine. * Small "Hungry" Hippo: 5cm (L) x 5cm (H) x 5cm (W). Hand-carved with a charming open-mouth pose. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The underside of the larger hippo has a natural, unpolished stone texture from the hand-carving process, but it sits perfectly flat and stable. No chips or cracks to the polished bodies.
