Bronze sculpture of a Greek discus thrower mounted on a solid marble base. Signed 'Myron'. however this is a modern reproduction not an antique original. The Diskobolus of Myron is a Greek sculpture that was completed towards the end of the Severe period, circa 460-450 BC. The original Greek bronze is lost but the work is known through numerous Roman copies, both full-scale ones in marble, which was cheaper than bronze, such as the first to be recovered, the Palombara Discopolus, or smaller scaled versions in bronze. An Art Nouveau inkwell and stationery platter, made by the famous German pewtersmiths Kayserzinn. Dating from 1885 and listed and pictured in the catalogue raisonne book of all Kayserzinn as shown in the photographs. The design is of Rocailles / Hedge Roses. Design number 4044 from 1895 (see mark). Fully marked as Kayserzinn. I collect Kayserzinn and this is quite a rare hard to find piece, there are not many examples on line. It is in gently worn original unpolished vintage condition. It could be polished up if desired. It has the original inkwell container with flowers and reeds. The well itself does wobble but I presume could be tightened up with the correct tools. Please examine photos of condition carefully before purchasing.
