Believed to be an apothecary box. Age unknown, but it is at least 50years old - maybe significantly more. It has slots for section dividers, and handed locator pins on lid. The leather strap is cracked and aged, but not broken (recently added polish to help preserve).

A lovely rustic 19thC Victorian country cottage slat box or possibly candle box (small candles) measuring 15cm high (container) by 15cm across and 12.5cm deep (front to back), total height at the back is 27cm. The salt box is made from beech with lovely staved container and hinged lid with a shaped back and pierced hole for hanging on the wall. Some discolouration, wear, scuffs and scratches with internal dust and grime. A small hairline fracture to one corner of the lid but no expansion and the lid operates perfectly and is not loose. Some minor shrinkage between the staves of the box but no worm. Found in original condition and not waxed or polished but still has a nice patination.
