This is a fine early version of a Stanley rosewood woodworking smooth plane knob. It’s the early short and wide knob. The height is 2” and roughly 1-3/4” wide. Ii has no cracks or repairs. It is in 'AS FOUND" good condition (considered an early "Low Knob").

You get the exact item pictured in used as is condition. The only markings I could find on it are a U and made in USA. It is very dusty and rusted and shows a lot of wear. I don’t know the first thing about how this item would work so it’s never been tested…it is coming to you exactly as is so please see photos.

Listed is a very rare Stanley no 4 1/2H Heavy smoothing plane, it is in overall great condition as seen in the pictures, with the only complaint being the broken corner at the back. there are no cracks in the casting, there is just a little bit of staining around the mouth. From what I could research about this plane, it looks to be made about 1902-1907, as it has the single patent date on the lateral adjustment lever.
