This item is a Nyatiti, an eight-stringed plucked lyre from Kenya, primarily played by the Luo people of Western Kenya. There is one tuning peg that is partially broken. Otherwise this piece of cultural artisan craft is in really nice condition. The strings appear to be fishing line with a gourd as its base. This instrument was typically used to accompany singing and dance during various ceremonies like marriages, circumcisions, and funerals.
