Vintage Ashanti King and Queen Figures Ghana Wood and Beads circa mid to late 20th Century Each Measuring approximately: H21cm x W8cm x D7cm About This is a quite rare and beautiful pair of King and Queen matrimonial carved figures in the Ashanti tradition. They are both seated on Ashanti stools, or Sika Dwa in Twi. The king holds an Akrafena sword in his right hand. He wears a ceremonial cap and has a string of tiny white beads around his neck. The Queen carries a large fruit in her right hand symbolising fertility. She has a necklace of tiny green beads around her neck. They have been finely carved from wood and have a patina of age and handling. I purchased them in Kumasi in Ghana in 2007 Private collection
