This is a Stanley Bailey No 4-1/2 smoothing plane, Type 17 (1942 - 45), WWII production model. The plane has been cleaned, lapped, and sharpened. The iron is ground and honed to 30° at 1200 grit. The plane has appx 90% of its original japanning.

Here we have a relatively early Stanley acorn plane possibly from the 1940s/50s. These were made by STANLEY in SHEFFIELD and sold as their secondary line. Just the same body as their 41/2 but with a different frog. Great candidate for restoration. Doesn't appear to have been used much. The blade is still fairly sharp. The Japanning is flaking off. There are various nicks, scratches, rust, and other wear to this tool from age and usage.
